  • Festive E-Safety

    Tue 10 Dec 2019
  • Cyber Cafe

    Mon 02 Dec 2019
    Cyber Café
    Thank you to those parents who attended the cyber café on Monday 02.12.19 with Mr Milum.
    At the Cyber Café, parents and children learnt how to create and maintain an e-safe environment at home. You can find some of the information below:

    What you can do to create an e-safe environment at home:

    -Parent controls and locks on all devices;

    -Time limits (not 30 mins before bed);

    -Age restricted games and apps/websites;

    -Technology only to be used in shared space, not bedrooms;

    -Parents check apps and messages;

    -Have a conversation with children about what to do if something online worries them at home and use the Netaware website for advise https://www.net-aware.org.uk/tips-and-advice/.

    -Please collect an e-safety leaflet in reception or visit the e-safety page on our school website https://www.churchfieldchurchschool.co.uk/esafety/

    Look out for the next Cyber Café for families and children to learn the basics in coding.

  • Anti-Bullying Week

    Mon 25 Nov 2019

    During anti-bullying week in school, we had assemblies and lessons all about what bullying is and what school does to stop bullying. Children also wore odd socks to school on Tuesday to celebrate the fact that we are all different to each other.

    The school council worked with their classes to put together an 'Anti-Bullying Toolkit' which are now displayed in classes.

    We also sent home a letter to parents. This was in response to our Parent View survey during parents evening where many parents felt that they did not understand how the school deals with bullying.

    We shared some key messages with children:

    1) Bullying is when someone is unkind to them several times on purpose (STOP).

    2) If a child is being bullied, they need to speak with their teacher or a trusted adult.

    3) The school will speak with the parents of all children involved.

  • Elaine Harmon's funeral

    Fri 01 Nov 2019

    Elaine's funeral took place at Sedgemoor Crematorium on Friday 1st November. The Nursery was closed for the day to allow for members of staff to attend. Elaine had worked at the nursery since 2006 and many children and parents worked closely with her over the past 13 years both in the nursery and school. Many of the older children remember her as their key worker and really the first member of Churchfield staff they got to know.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with Elaine's family, friends and the parents and children of the nursery at this time.

  • Mr Philcox, Headteacher, announces his retirement.

    Thu 24 Oct 2019

    Mr. Philcox has informed the school of his decision to retire on the 3rd April 2020. The governors are sorry to hear of his forthcoming departure, as in his two years of headship here at Churchfield School, he has worked hard to enable our school to continue to improve for all of our children. He has had their wellbeing, their progress and opportunities for new and exciting experiences at the heart of every decision; he will be hugely missed. I am sure you would wish to join me in wishing him the very best for his future, in retirement.

    In the meantime, Mrs. Eveleigh, who is the Regional Director for the BWMAT, will continue working closely with Mr Philcox until the end of the spring term to ensure there is a smooth transition to the new Head. The recruitment for the new Headteacher has started and we hope to make an appointment in the very near future.

  • School Council Elections

    Mon 14 Oct 2019
    We are delighted that so many children wanted to be part of our School Council. The elections were held last week and the children in Year 4-6 were presented with their School Council badges in Worship this afternoon. Mr. Armstrong spoke of how democracy is important in both in school and in our country. The children are really keen to get started at their first meeting later this week.
  • Elaine Harmon

    Thu 10 Oct 2019

    It with great sadness that I have to inform the school community about the sudden and unexpected death of Elaine Harmon. Elaine started working in the Churchfield Nursery in 2006 and worked closely with many children, families and staff in both the school and nursery over the years.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with Elaine's family and friends at this time.

  • Times tables at Churchfield

    Mon 16 Sep 2019

    At school this year, the children will be focusing on becoming more confident in their times tables.

    Years 2-6 will have times table homework books which they will use to complete their times table practise.

    You can support your child to learn their tables using games and songs. Here is one game to try:

    https://www.mathschase.com/

    There are also a wide range of enjoyable times tables songs available on YouTube - why not try them out with your child?

    As you will see from the photograph, our new Year 6 have received their ties and are looking very smart indeed! We are pleased with the way that they are settling into being our role models in school.

    We have also chosen our new prefect team and head boy and head girl who will wear very special purple ties - please see the latest newsletter for all of the details.
