Safeguarding Across the Curriculum
At Churchfield Church School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, heard, and protected. Our approach to safeguarding is woven throughout the curriculum, ensuring children learn how to keep themselves and others safe in a variety of contexts.
We use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme to deliver age-appropriate lessons that help children understand healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, online safety, and how to seek help when needed. These lessons are complemented by our RE curriculum (Understanding Christianity), which promotes respect, empathy, and moral understanding, and our Cornerstones foundation subjects, which encourage critical thinking and awareness of the wider world.
In PE (Complete PE), children learn about physical safety, teamwork, and managing risk. Our Music curriculum (Charanga) supports emotional expression and collaboration, helping children build confidence and resilience. Across all subjects, we promote British Values, equality, and respect for diversity.
We also enrich our safeguarding education through assemblies, themed weeks (e.g. Anti-Bullying Week, Safer Internet Day), and visits from external agencies such as local emergency services and community safety organisations.
Our staff are trained to deliver sensitive topics with care and adapt content to meet the needs of all learners. We encourage open dialogue, value pupil voice, and provide safe spaces for children to share concerns.
Together, we aim to equip every child with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate life safely and responsibly—both in school and beyond.
