  • A message to all children from Rev. Dan and all at St. John's Church

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

    As your time at school changes…

    As you leave your school today,
    know that you go with our love and our blessing.

    When you have the chance,
    go outside and enjoy the rain or the sunshine.

    Smile and wave, do a little jig, or sing a song to those who can’t leave their homes.

    When you eat, pause and remember those who may be eating less, or having to eat things they don’t really enjoy.

    All those things we learn about and practice at school, our PRAISE values (Perseverance, Respect, Acceptance and friendship, Independence, Selflessness, Empathy and Compassion) well, here’s your chance to really do them.

    Be forgiving - people are feeling a bit stressed.

    Be patient - sometimes you won’t be able to do the things you want to

    Be generous - share something if you can, even if it’s just a smile.

    Show respect - everyone is precious and valuable, even when they are being difficult.

    Encourage one another - we are all feeling a bit wobbly.

    Try not to moan or fight or say things which might hurt. And keep on trying.

    Look out for Rainbows and daffodils; they are signs of hope and promise when times are hard.

    Store up your stories and smiles until we are back together again.

    Hug those people you can and above all show love to one another, over and over again.

    Remember, above everything else, that you are valued, and you are loved.

    Rev Dan and all at St John’s Church, Highbridge

  • World Book Day - Spud U Like!

    Thu 05 Mar 2020

    Thank you to all the children who made so many amazing book characters from potatoes! It was absolutely lovely to hear about how you made the potato characters at home with lots of talking to your parents about the characters! We had such a variety of characters - Harry Potter (often called Harry Pot-at-ter!), lots of Mr Men and some Disney characters too. They were all really good, but we asked Rev. Dan to choose the three he liked best and the creators will receive a special prize!

    It was great to show off the potato characters at the end of the day and lots of parents came to see them. A great World Book Day!.

  • Festive E-Safety

    Tue 10 Dec 2019
  • Cyber Cafe

    Mon 02 Dec 2019
    Cyber Café
    Thank you to those parents who attended the cyber café on Monday 02.12.19 with Mr Milum.
    At the Cyber Café, parents and children learnt how to create and maintain an e-safe environment at home. You can find some of the information below:

    What you can do to create an e-safe environment at home:

    -Parent controls and locks on all devices;

    -Time limits (not 30 mins before bed);

    -Age restricted games and apps/websites;

    -Technology only to be used in shared space, not bedrooms;

    -Parents check apps and messages;

    -Have a conversation with children about what to do if something online worries them at home and use the Netaware website for advise https://www.net-aware.org.uk/tips-and-advice/.

    -Please collect an e-safety leaflet in reception or visit the e-safety page on our school website https://www.churchfieldchurchschool.co.uk/esafety/

    Look out for the next Cyber Café for families and children to learn the basics in coding.

  • Anti-Bullying Week

    Mon 25 Nov 2019

    During anti-bullying week in school, we had assemblies and lessons all about what bullying is and what school does to stop bullying. Children also wore odd socks to school on Tuesday to celebrate the fact that we are all different to each other.

    The school council worked with their classes to put together an 'Anti-Bullying Toolkit' which are now displayed in classes.

    We also sent home a letter to parents. This was in response to our Parent View survey during parents evening where many parents felt that they did not understand how the school deals with bullying.

    We shared some key messages with children:

    1) Bullying is when someone is unkind to them several times on purpose (STOP).

    2) If a child is being bullied, they need to speak with their teacher or a trusted adult.

    3) The school will speak with the parents of all children involved.
