Curriculum Map Summer Half Term 1 2021

Our first week back has been amazing!

We have changed the story of The Three Little Pigs, and are changing the story to retell it from the Wolf's point of view. We acted as detectives to find the facts and have written crime stories.

Science Day - Friday

Today we investigated the wildlife around our school - take a look at our pictures...

Welcome back after October half term!

This half term our Learning Quest is DO MY DECISIONS MATTER. It is a geographical and conservational theme, investigating how our decisions can affect the environment.

PE for Walnut class will be with the PE coach on Tuesday afternoons: 3.11.20, 17.11.20, 1.12.20 and 15.12.20. We will also continue to do PE every Wednesday afternoon, so all pupils will need to wear PE kit on alternate Tuesday and every Wednesday.

Don't forget to keep up your reading habit: 5 times each week, practise spellings and times tables.

In RE this week, we focused on the story of Moses, then we drew our ideas on the playground and produced giant pictures of the story.

We have come to the end of our amazing Ancient Egypt Learning Quest this week. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about their way of life, religion, different pharaohs and of course, about the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Here are some examples of the work we have completed this week.

Egyptian examples of work

We had a visiting Egyptologist, Ali, who taught us lots of amazing facts about Ancient Egypt. We learned how to write numbers, use hieroglyphics to write our names, and how these ancient people believed in exciting gods, some of whom guided them into the afterlife.

We had an amazing time!

Costume Ideas for Egyptian Day

Year 4 & 5 Egyptian Day

As part of our Ancient Egyptians topic next half term, we have planned a whole themed day on the 23rd September for Walnut and Sycamore classes and the 25th September for Rowan and Poplar classes.

We have secured the Egyptology Company, who are leading the activities, and this should be an amazing experience for the children. The cost of the day will be £4.00 per child, and we are excited that we will be learning about hieroglyphics, ancient numeracy, mythology and mummies.

To make the day even more fun, we would like all children to dress up as Ancient Egyptians on the day of their workshop. We do not want to make this tricky, so below are some simple examples of how to organise costumes.

Any questions, please see the class teacher.

Yours sincerely

Year 4 / 5 Teachers

We've had an amazing start back to school over the last week or so. Remember everyone - PE kits every Wednesday (Wear it to school to save time and keep safe). Also, every other Tuesday this half term is Forest School. The dates start 15th Sept, and then alternate weeks, until October half term.

For Forest School, please wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy. Coats and warm clothes for cold days please, as we'll be outside for most of the afternoon. Remember - wear them to school.

Also, to get back into school routine, read 5 times every week (recording in your reading diary), practise times tables and spellings, using TT Rock Stars and Spelling Shed.
