This term we will be using the text Stone Age boy by Satoshi Kitamura

Activity One

Look at the Front Cover

Write down 3 questions you have about the book now you have seen the cover.  Remember to end your questions with a ?

Activity Two

Read the opening paragraph of the text and talk about it with someone. Answer the following questions

What do you think about how it starts the story off?

Does it make you want to read more?

Where do you think the character is?

Activity Three

Read the opening paragraph again, look for the words the author has used for effect (wandered, stumbled) can you think of two other words the author could have used instead, which word do you think is the best? why? Use an online dictionary or thesaurus to help you.

Activity Four

Write a list of at least 5 describing words (adjectves) which describe the place the character woke up in where it says ‘When I woke up I was in a cold dark place.’ Find five words for cold and five for dark, use an on line dictionary or thesaurus to help you.

Activity Five

Clauses can be joined by conjunctions such as coordination (e.g. or / and / but) and subordination (e.g. when / if / that / because).

Write at least 3 sentences which are joined by conjunctions that the author could have used in this opening paragraph. Such as the space was dark and eerily quiet SO I felt anxious.
