Super Readers!
Well done boys!
You have read at home every day for 5 weeks! We are really proud of you and der ever your reward of an extra playtime and football. Keep up the good work.
Harvest Hedgehog Bread
Poplar class had lots of fun making our hedgehog bread as part of a DT and Harvest project.
First we found some recipes online. We adapted a recipe to suit us. Using the structure of a recipe, we wrote our own recipe including the method, ingredients and equipment we needed.
We then went to the Lime Room and followed our recipes to make our hedgehog bread.
Our DT learning objectives included knowing how to be hygienic and safety in the kitchen which we all achieved.
We were really proud of how the bread looked after baking it in the oven. After taking the bread home and tasting it, back in school the following day we completed our evaluations, giving our opinions about the appearance, taste and what changes we could do if we made it again.
Pumpkin exploration
We used the pumpkin to help us with our phonics, ‘p’ for pumpkin and ‘s’ for seed, as well as learning lots of new vocabulary describing the texture and how it felt.
We used our motor skills to scoop out the seeds.
Once the seeds dried, we used them as part of our maths counting them.

CHURCHFIELD SCHOOL PARLIAMENT
Poplar class voted for candidates to represent Poplar class in the school Parliament.
The children had an opportunity to explain why they should be chosen, and we are pleased to announce that ...
Alfie and Jessica won the vote and will serve on the Parliament
Ethan H and Lucy remain our Eco councillors.
After attending their first meeting on Monday, they informed us it had been agreed that children are encouraged to bring any old batteries to school, so that we can safely recycle them.
STAR OF THE WEEK
Year 4 & 5 Egyptian Day
As part of our Ancient Egyptians topic next half term, we have planned a whole themed day on Friday 25th September for Rowan and Poplar classes.
We have secured the Egyptology Company, who are leading the activities, and this should be an amazing experience for the children. The cost of the day will be £4.00 per child, and we are excited that we will be learning about hieroglyphics, ancient numeracy, mythology and mummies.
To make the day even more fun, we would like all children to dress up as Ancient Egyptians on the day of their workshop. We do not want to make this tricky, so below are some simple examples of how to organise costumes.
Any questions, please see the class teacher.
Yours sincerely

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL POPLAR CLASS!
We've had an amazing start back to school over the last week or so. It was very strange getting used to all the new routines, but we have managed this well and are now into the routine of what we have to do to stay safe.
Remember everyone - PE kits every Wednesday (Wear it to school to save time and keep safe). Also, every other Tuesday this half term is PE with Mr Carr. The dates for this half term are Tuesday 6th October and Tuesday 20th October. |After half term we will be changing activities and we will let you know what you will need then.
Also, to get back into school routine, you should be reading 5 times every week (recording in your reading diary), practise times tables and spellings, using TT Rock Stars and Spelling Shed.
Don't forget if you have any questions, please ask the adults in Poplar.
