Juniper - Year 1
Healthy lifestyles activities
Year 1 children took part in Healthy Lifestyles activities for 6 weeks with Mr Kennard from SASP.
The children talked about their emotions and played emotions bingo.
We did 5 different activities linked to our senses - smelling shampoo (smell); tasting squash (taste); guessing objects in feely bags(touch); Chinese whisper games (listening) and a body puzzle (sight).
We kept active diaries for a week, noting down how often we moved and all the different activities we took part in throughout the week to keep our bodies healthy and active.
The children were surprised to learn how much sugar is in their favourite drinks, realising that water is the best drink to keep our teeth and bodies healthy.
The egg experiment was very exciting. We were learning how to brush and care for our teeth. We put 3 eggs in different liquids for a week - water, vinegar and cola. The egg in the water stayed hard and strong, the other eggs were soft and changed colour; helping us to learn how important water is for our bodies.
Washing hands is excellent to keep germs away and we all had a go at following the instructions and washing our hands properly - this will help us to stay clean and healthy.

All About Letters! We have been learning how to write letters this week. Today, we had a visitor from the Post Office. She kindly brought us some pre-paid envelopes which we used to write a letter to ourselves to see if we get it back tomorrow. We walked to the post box before the last collection to post our letter and we can't wait to see if it arrives back tomorrow!
How can you help at home? These documents may be useful!
We have been learning the story of Goldilocks. We re-enacted the story, made porridge in the mud kitchen, had a teddy bears picnic and made new chairs for baby bear.
We have been learning about The Little Red Hen. We visited the Asda bakery to see how bread is made. We then sampled lots of different types of bread.

We made Remebrance poppies and went to church to add them to a display.
We visited the carnival floats and celebrated with our own carnival procession.
We have been ordering numbers
We have been learning one more, one less and equal to in maths. We played dice games and showed our understanding using Numicon.
