Holly - Year 1
We have been reading the book, Get ready Dad's back. A story which takes us around the world. Kelly from Asda came to school and brought foods from India, Jamaica, France and Italy for us to taste.
We have been enjoying learning about different cultures.
Year 1 children took part in Healthy Lifestyles activities for 6 weeks with Mr Kennard from SASP.
The children talked about their emotions and played emotions bingo.
We did 5 different activities linked to our senses - smelling shampoo (smell); tasting squash (taste); guessing objects in feely bags(touch); Chinese whisper games (listening) and a body puzzle (sight).
We kept active diaries for a week, noting down how often we moved and all the different activities we took part in throughout the week to keep our bodies healthy and active.
The children were surprised to learn how much sugar is in their favourite drinks, realising that water is the best drink to keep our teeth and bodies healthy.
The egg experiment was very exciting. We were learning how to brush and care for our teeth. We put 3 eggs in different liquids for a week - water, vinegar and cola. The egg in the water stayed hard and strong, the other eggs were soft and changed colour; helping us to learn how important water is for our bodies.
Washing hands is excellent to keep germs away and we all had a go at following the instructions and washing our hands properly - this will help us to stay clean and healthy.
Super Readers - Well done!
Look at our super daily readers. They have won lots of stickers for reading at home , we are very proud of them.

Spellings for Friday 25th January 2019
We have been learning about writing letters for 2 weeks.
Jack came to talk to us from Burnham-on-Sea sorting office.
She talked to us about what happens to our letters once we post them, and how they get delivered to the right place.
Jack gave us a prepaid envelope. We wrote ourselves a letter and walked to the post box to post it.
We were very excited today as the letter came back to us!
How can you help at home? These things may be useful!

Listening walk and Looking walk - learning about our senses.
As part of art week, we were learning about Somerset and decided to have our own mini Glastonbury festival.
We changed into festival clothes, made tickets and posters, had a wrist band and danced to music,as well as play musical instruments.
